Lights Out!
What up everyone, Elder Tadje comin at ya with LIGHT!!!!! Our electricity's been out for a week cuz the guy in the tienda before us hasn't given us our light bill since October!!! So we had a fun week of flashlights but as of yesterday we are good.
There's something that Elder Velez and I have been noticing this week- All of the people in Guatemala get their clothes from pacas, or megapacas. A megapaca is basically DI and pacas are just any random house where people decide to hang their clothes outside and sell them. But all the clothes come from the states, and a ton from Utah. So we see a million BYU and U of U shirts! But we have noticed that all of the people with Utah shirts are really angry and never want to talk to us, and the people with the BYU shirts are super open and friendly and receptive. Not sure if there's a reason behind that... haha
This week's been really good in Barcenas!! We have a baptism this Sunday- her name's Eibon Garcia, she's 22 and single and lives with her parents and her little 4 month old baby. She's been wanting to make a change in her life, and just didn't know how. One night Elder Velez and I didn't know where to go, so we prayed and asked to be guided to find someone who needed to hear our message. We started walking; walked for maybe 5 minutes then I felt like we needed to knock one door. We knocked, and her dad came out. He told us to come back in a week and a half (which usually means they want nothing to do with us). But we came back, and we met Eibon! She's super nice, and every time we come over she tells us about the peace and tranquility she has felt ever since coming to the church, and even her parents have noticed the difference in her!
We also had a kid named Jordan Gomez come to church Sunday- he contacted US on the streets and asked us to come over! And that never happens. He's crazy smart- he was correcting the teacher during Elders Quorum! And us too sometimes...
Elder Velez and I are seeing miracles here in Barcenas. This area really is blessed and so are we to be able to be here!!!
More than anything we're excited about GENERAL CONFERENCE THIS WEEK!!!!!! It's like Christmas for missionaries!!!! But I was talking with Elder Velez, and we were wondering what has changed from before, and now. Why is the conference so important to us now, when maybe it wasn't as much before? We compared it to christmas- we spend the entire month and even before preparing, planning, waiting, wishing, hoping for that one day. For the spiritual christmas which is 2 days of spiritual gifts and guidance, how much preparation do we put in? Do we prepare for a month, a week, or even a day before? Or just show up? I promise all of you that as we prepare and really do everything we can to be ready for general conference that the Lord will be able to guide us and help us to receive all of the spiritual gifts that he has for us!!!
Les amo mucho a todos, tantas gracias por el apoyo y oraciones! En verdad se sienten!!
Que les vaya muy bien!!
Elder Tadje
