No Rainbows Without a Little Rain

Ayyy all welcome to another week in Guatemala!!!! I haven't written a whole lot about missionary life, so Ima give a quick rundown of our schedule! Usually sometime between 5 and 6 we get up for the day- depending on what we have, it may be earlier. We exercise for half an hour, then have an hour to shower dress and eat. We each have one bowl, one spoon, and one cup! On pdays we buy all of our food for the week and try to ration. Then we have half an hour of planning, an hour of personal study, then companionship study, and training for the first 12 weeks. (Then supposedly half an hour of language study but that almost never happens.....) The first thing I learned as a missionary is that there is never enough time. Never. There is never a moment when we are not doing something! After studying we hit the streets and start visiting people. If visits fall through, (which they do a lot) we try to visit less actives or members in the area. We have 27 recent conver...

Earthquake in Guatemala

September 12, 2017 Ayyy all!! I just keep hearing that the world outside of Guatemala is breaking! I guess here a little too- the earthquake was pretty crazy at about 11 at night. Elder Petronilo shouted "Elder Tadje! esta temblando!!!!" I had no idea what he was saying, so I started apologizing. The rest was just like a roller coaster ride, but we didn't really go anywhere.... Also breaking is our house. Which we don't understand because it's concrete and there's another house above us.... But there are miracles everywhere- all of our stuff is almost always completely dry!!!  But my spiritual message for this week was over something really interesting that I realized yesterday. In english, CTR means choose the right. But in spanish, it's HLJ, or Haz Lo Justo. Do the right. In life we are faced with choices. Good or bad, we alw...

Guatemala City Central Gringos  District Lucas Elder Shipley and the Captian  Rodolfo Gonzalez's baptism, 50 Serfio Colindrez's baptism, 16 Journal entry from sept 3. Today was a testament that the work goes on despite our many faults and imperfections. Last week Sergio Colindrez was supposed to be baptized. It fell through for some reason I don't completely know cuz it was all in spanish! Something with his cousin. But whatever it was, we didn't visit him once this week, and I'm pretty sure that we were about to completely drop him as an investigator. But we called his cousin Stuardo, and he said that Sergio still wanted to! So today, I was blessed with the opportnity to baptize Sergio Antonio Casia Colindrez! It was an amazing experience- extremely humbling but also very humbling. It really made me realize that all of these people are children of God, and deserve the chance to receive this gift. Christ doesn't give up ...
